About Landgraf I
Landgraf I is a (died 1996) Dark bay Holsteiner showjumping stallion foaled in 1966, by Ladykiller xx out of a Aldato dam.
Landgraf I, born on 10th April 1966 in Germany, was a Holsteiner stallion revered for his unmatched contribution to the showjumping breeding world. Despite limited success in early breeding programmes, Landgraf I quickly emerged as a vital figure in jumper breeding, leaving a profound legacy. Bred by Graf von Kielmansegg, he was sired by Ladykiller xx and out of the mare Warthburg. His stature was commanding, standing at 170 cm at the withers, with a remarkable physical presence and notable jumping talent. On the international breeding stage, his influence remains unparalleled, with his descendants continually holding top positions within the ranks of Holsteiner sport horses.
Although not widely celebrated for his own competition career, Landgraf I proved his ability by clearing an impressive height of 6’6’’ at the 1975 Equitana exhibit in Germany. This performance showcased his potential as a powerful jumper, despite not being coupled with a sustained competition record. Rather, it was his prowess in reproduction that made him a standing emblem of success within the Holsteiner studbook, further validated by the substantial prize money accumulated by his progeny, estimated at over 4.5 million euros by the end of his career.
Landgraf I is father to a lineage of remarkable showjumping progeny who have achieved significant success on the international stage. Among his most notable offspring is Libero H, who won the 1994 FEI World Cup Final and secured a prestigious Grand Prix victory in Aachen. Burggraaf, another distinguished progeny, similarly excelled, being linked to numerous winners of top competitions. Landadel further extended Landgraf I's legacy by producing finalists across competitions, underscoring the prolific impact Landgraf I had in the world of showjumping.
Landgraf I died in 1996 at Bokel, DE (heart failure). Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
