Papillon Rouge was a Selle Français showjumping stallion born on January 8, 1981, in France. Bred by Fernand Leredde, his sire was Jalisco B and his dam was Verboise. Xavier Leredde, the breeder's son, primarily rode Papillon Rouge during his career. He recorded significant achievements in international showjumping, including being a 1992 Olympic finalist in Barcelona and winning a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in 1991. In 1989, Papillon Rouge won the puissance at Vichy, clearing a height of 2.25 meters. He added to his victories with Nations Cup wins at Kappel, Luxembourg, and Rotterdam in 1992. In 1993, he became Champion of France and was the runner-up at the French Championships in 1994. Apart from competing, Papillon Rouge was approved by studbooks such as Selle Français, AWR, BWP, HANN, and KWPN, playing a key role in breeding elite show jumpers within the Selle Français studbook.
Papillon Rouge sired numerous successful offspring that competed at high levels in showjumping. Notable among his progeny is Fleche Rouge, who represented the Netherlands at the Nations Cups and participated in the 2004 Olympic Games, contributing to a fourth-place team result. Fleche Rouge achieved victories such as the Grand Prix of Valkenswaard and secured notable placings in the Grand Prix at Zürich 2006 and World Cup Qualifiers of Vigo and Verona the same year. Another significant progeny of Papillon Rouge includes Tresor, ridden by Steve Guerdat, and featured prominently in the FEI/WBFSH World Rankings for 2007. Icare du Manet also stood out, recognized among point holders in 2007 rankings, further exemplifying Papillon Rouge's impact through his offspring's accomplishments.
