About Cardento
Cardento is a (died 2019) grey Holsteiner showjumping stallion foaled in 1992, by Capitol I out of a Lord dam.
Cardento, a Holsteiner stallion born in 1992, was an influential figure in the world of show jumping. Bred in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, he was the progeny of Capitol I and B-Estelle, two highly regarded horses in the breeding industry. Under the guidance of Swedish rider Peter Eriksson, Cardento's career was marked by significant achievements, most notably his team silver medals at the 2001 European Championships in Arnhem, the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, and the 2004 Athens Olympics. Cardento had a successful run in Nations Cups and Grand Prix classes until his retirement from competition in 2006, after being honoured at the Falsterbo Horse Show.
Post-retirement, Cardento stood at VDL Stud in the Netherlands, where he became a prominent sire, leaving a lasting impact on the show jumping scene. Despite initial challenges in gaining studbook approvals, he was eventually approved by numerous prestigious studbooks, catapulting him to elite status. Cardento passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in both competitive achievements and breeding contributions.
Cardento was a prolific sire whose offspring have excelled on international show jumping stages. Among his successful progeny, Katanga v/h Dingeshof, under Nicola Philippaerts, secured a 5th place in the 5* 1.60m Grand Prix of Wellington. Chasspleen Flamingo Z, ridden by Santiago Diaz Ortega, triumphed in the CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Oliva. C Vier 2, with Isabella Russekoff as rider, achieved an 8th place in the CSI5* Hampton Classic Grand Prix. The performances of these offspring underscore Cardento's significant influence on the sport.
Cardento died in 2019 at VDL Stud, Netherlands. Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
