About Caletto II

Caletto II is a (died 1984) Brown Holsteiner showjumping stallion foaled in 1978, by Cor de la Bryère out of a Consul dam.

Caletto II was a prominent Holsteiner stallion born on January 1, 1978, in Germany. Bred by Klaus-Martin Both in Obendeich, he was the creation of acclaimed breeding cross between sire Cor de la Bryère and dam Deka. He exemplified the perfect Holsteiner type and carried significant Thoroughbred influence in his bloodline, with 45.31% Thoroughbred ancestry evident across nine generations. His sire line traces back to Rantzau XX, and his dam line features Consul, both esteemed horses contributing to his quality conformation and talent in showjumping.

Caletto II's prowess in showjumping was apparent early as he won Champion of the stallion licensing in Neumünster in 1980. He showed remarkable jumping technique and was a favourite in competition, achieving numerous victories in showjumping tests. His career, however, was tragically cut short in September 1984 when he died after rearing up and breaking his neck at a regional show, shortly after being declared the best in show.

Despite his limited time as a stud, Caletto II had a monumental impact on showjumping breeding. From 1981 to 1983, he stood at Woerden, then at Wellinghausen until his untimely death. His influence in breeding is highlighted by his ranking of 16th in the WBFSH top fifty rankings for 1991-2000, attributed to the achievements of his progeny in showjumping. His legacy lives on through his offspring that have succeeded in international showjumping competitions.

Caletto II sired several notable progeny that made significant marks in the world of showjumping. Jewel's Classic Touch, perhaps his most distinguished offspring, achieved individual Gold in showjumping at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics partnered with Ludger Beerbaum. Operette La Silla, another offspring, excelled in Nations Cups under Jan Tops' skilful riding. His son Caretino competed internationally with esteemed riders Bo Kristoffersen and Ludger Beerbaum and furthered Caletto II's influence by siring other successful jumpers like Caretano Z. Cassiana Joter added to his progeny's accolades with a team bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics under Andre Johannpeter. Across these successful horses, Caletto II's legacy in the showjumping sphere is clearly evident.

Caletto II died in 1984 at Regional show, Germany (Accident, broke neck). Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
