About Animo
Animo is a (died 2011) bay KWPN showjumping stallion foaled in 1982, by Almé out of a Amor dam.
Animo, a KWPN stallion born on 7 May 1982, rose to prominence in showjumping circles. The Selle Français stallion Almé was his sire, while his dam was the mare Irene, marking him with significant equestrian genetics. Bred by Peter Simons in Maastricht, Animo represented a blend of Dutch and Holsteiner heritage. He gained attention at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, partnered with Norwegian rider Morten Aasen. Throughout his career, Animo secured 48 placements in World Cup events and Grands Prix, including notable competitions in Helsinki and Antwerp. Animo spent his final years in Great Britain, under the ownership of the Aasen family, and passed away in 2011 from age-related complications and a severe lung infection. Recognised by several studbooks, such as Selle Francais, Zangersheide, NRPS, and SWB, he was a sought-after breeding stallion. Animo received the KWPN 'Keur' predicate in 1996, affirming his superior breeding credentials.
Animo's legacy continues through his numerous successful progeny, who have significantly impacted the showjumping circuits worldwide. Among his most remarkable offspring is Andiamo Z, a highly accomplished competitor under the guidance of several skilled riders, such as Jos Lansink and Christof Cleeren. Another noteworthy descendant is Robin Hood W, who competed internationally with rider Ben Maher. Animo has also sired Avenzio, known for his competition success under Taizo Susitani. The achievements of Animo's progeny have consistently placed him among the top ten stallions in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) rankings, underscoring his significant genetic contribution to the sport.
Animo died in 2011 at Great Britain (lung infection, age-related infirmities). Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
