Farn, born on 1 January 1959, was a bay Holsteiner stallion from Germany bred by M. Thormählen. This stallion belonged to the Holsteiner 'Achill' or 'F' line, originating in 1877, and was registered with the Holsteiner studbook. Farn did not have an extensive competition record but greatly influenced showjumping breeding, particularly impacting the Dutch Warmblood breed. Farn gained recognition not for his own competitive achievements but as a sire passing on desirable traits such as size and substance. He became vital after relocating to Holland, where he covered 236 mares in 1979. Farn was licensed by the Holstein Verband and approved by the Dutch Warmblood studbook, earning the 'keur' predicate in 1978. In 1991, he received the 'preferent' designation, marking his enduring significance in equine breeding and international showjumping.

Farn sired several notable showjumping horses that left their mark on the international stage. His offspring include Nimmerdor, who became one of the most influential stallions in showjumping history, contributing to numerous competitive successes, including participation in top-tier events such as the World Championships.
