About Hickstead

Hickstead is a (died 2011) Brown showjumping stallion foaled in 1996, by Hamlet out of a Ekstein dam.

Hickstead was a Dutch Warmblood stallion born on 2 March 1996 in Belgium, bred by Jan van Schijndel. His pedigree included Hamlet, and his ancestry featured renowned show jumping horses like Nimmerdor and Notaris. Demonstrating talent from an early age, he was first approved by the Dutch NRPS registry and subsequently by KWPN and Canadian Warmblood registries. Teaming up with Canadian rider Eric Lamaze, Hickstead thrived internationally, highlighted by winning an individual gold and team silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His career featured wins at major Grand Prix events, such as the CN International at Spruce Meadows and the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen, accumulating over $3.7 million CAD in earnings. Despite difficulties in semen collection, he influenced the sport through his approximately 100 offspring in the show jumping circuit.

Among Hickstead's offspring, Hickstead White stands out as a significant progeny. Bred in Germany by Gestüt Sprehe, Hickstead White has demonstrated his potential by achieving high marks in young horse classes and competing at international levels. Another notable descendant, Gallup WF, has shown promise by competing successfully in events such as the Spruce Meadows summer series. These progenies reflect Hickstead's enduring impact on the sport as they compete across various levels and contribute to his legacy.

Hickstead died in 2011 at Verona, Italy (rupture of aorta). Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
