About Eric Lamaze

Eric Lamaze, born on April 17, 1968, in Montreal, Quebec, is a celebrated Canadian show jumping rider. His career is marked by a remarkable Olympic pedigree, having achieved the pinnacle of the sport with individual gold and team silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a feat unmatched in Canadian show jumping history. His renowned partnership with the Dutch Warmblood stallion Hickstead led them to numerous victories and accolades, including an individual bronze medal at the 2010 World Equestrian Games where Hickstead was posthumously named 'Best Horse'.

Lamaze also left his mark on other prestigious competitions, consistently representing Canada in seven World Equestrian Games from 1994 to 2018, and achieving a team gold at the 2015 Pan American Games with Coco Bongo. His individual bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Fine Lady 5 further underscored his enduring presence and skill at the highest levels of show jumping.

Beyond competing, Lamaze operates the Torrey Pines Stable situated in Wellington, Florida, and Brussels, Belgium, where he continues to shape the future of the sport as a trainer and a mentor. In recent years, he announced his retirement from active competition due to health concerns but remains a pivotal influence in the show jumping community as the Chef d'Equipe for the Canadian Show Jumping Team.
