About Calvados

Calvados is a (died 1994) Chestnut showjumping stallion foaled in 1984, by Uriel out of a Ibrahim dam.

Calvados was a Selle Français stallion born in 1984 and bred by Mr. F. P. Hamerlinck in France. Sired by Uriel and out of the mare Gold Rose, he became a highly regarded progenitor in the showjumping world, despite his limited competitive career. His pedigree features prominent Thoroughbred lines, including the notable Thoroughbred sire Rantzau as his grandsire. Although Calvados did not compete broadly in top international showjumping, he made a significant contribution through his role as a sire. Calvados was approved by the KWPN, and his genetic legacy continued through his offspring, who reflected the athletic prowess and scope of his lineage.

Calvados's influence as a sire extends through several notable progeny with remarkable achievements in international showjumping. Among his direct offspring, VDL Groep Sapphire B gained significant recognition under the tutelage of Markus Fuchs and later with Kevin Staut. Additionally, his offspring Epleaser van 't Heike Z achieved considerable success, winning the CSI5* Grand Prix of Villach–Treffen and the prestigious Nations Cup of Aachen with rider Christian Ahlmann.

Calvados died in 1994 at Unknown (Unknown). Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
