About Ben Maher

Ben Maher MBE (born 30 January 1983) is a British showjumper from Enfield and one of the most decorated riders in the sport's modern history: five Olympic Games, three Olympic gold medals, ten senior championship medals, a record three Global Champions Tour season titles, and in 2013 the first British showjumper ever to hold world No. 1.

His three golds are three different stories. At London 2012 he won team gold on home ground with the home-produced Tripple X III. At Tokyo, riding the Chacco-Blue gelding Explosion W — the horse he calls a friend as much as a partner — he won the individual Olympic title, adding it to the pair's 2019 European double, consecutive LGCT championships and the inaugural Super Grand Prix. And at Paris 2024 he anchored Britain's team gold with the mare Dallas Vegas Batilly, produced patiently from a sensitive, huge-striding youngster into a multi-round championship mare who added European team silver and individual fourth in 2025.

The depth of his production line is the career's signature: Cella's European medals in 2013, Faltic HB's world team bronze in 2022 — Britain's first in 24 years — Enjeu de Grisien's League of Nations Final win, the speed mare Ginger-Blue, and now Point Break, the Swedish stallion who was runner-up at the 2025 World Cup Final, won Rotterdam's Grand Prix in June 2026, and carries Maher's flag into the Aachen World Championships as a definite British entry. Explosion W was retired in a ceremony at the London International in December 2025.

Based in Hertfordshire and wintering in Wellington with long-term owners Charlotte Rossetter and Pamela Wright, Maher is fourth in the world at 43. What is missing from the record is precise: no World Cup Final title (he has been runner-up), no individual World Championship, and no Rolex Grand Slam Major — he has won Rolex-sponsored Grands Prix at Windsor, Wellington and Brussels, but none of the four Majors. Those are the open targets of one of Britain's greatest Olympic equestrians.
