About Gotthard

Gotthard is a (died 1978) Grey Hannoveraner showjumping stallion foaled in 1949, by Goldfisch II out of a Amateur I dam.

Gotthard was a Hanoverian stallion born in 1949, bred by Richard Kords in Achthöfen, Germany. His sire, Goldfisch II, was known for producing good movers, and his dam was Ampa. Gotthard's pedigree combined established bloodlines, with his maternal line tracing back to the influential Shagya Arab blood through Amurath I. Initially placed on the reserve list at Celle, Gotthard's genetic potential emerged through his progeny's success in showjumping, revealing his value as a breeding sire. Gotthard himself did not gain significant accolades in competition. However, his offspring achieved considerable success, and he became the leading stallion for prize money earnings in 1975. The earnings and international presence of his progeny underscored his role in Hanoverian and sport horse breeding.

Gotthard fathered an impressive array of offspring who excelled on the international showjumping scene. Among the most notable is Goldika, who thrived in the early 1970s under the guidance of rider Gert Wiltfang, winning 17 'S' classes and three Nations Cups in a single year. Gotthard's progeny collectively earned nearly two million deutschmarks, which underscored his impact on the sport. Besides Goldika, Gotthard sired notable horses such as Goya, Gonzales, and Graf Sieno, each contributing to his reputation as a sire of champions, with over 50 of his offspring competing successfully at international levels.

Gotthard died in 1978. Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
