About Furioso xx

Furioso xx is a (died 1967) Bay SF showjumping stallion foaled in 1939, by Precipitation out of a Son-in-Law dam.

Furioso was a Thoroughbred stallion born in 1939 in the United Kingdom, bred by Mr. Blunt. His pedigree traces back to influential lines, with his sire Precipitation being notable in preserving both the Matchem and Godolphin Arabian lines. While Furioso was originally bred for the track, he did not excel in racing, failing to win any of his 21 starts and earning a mere 92 pounds sterling. However, his true impact was to come after his racing career when he was purchased by the French National Stud in 1946 and moved to France for breeding.

In France, Furioso became a cornerstone in the development of showjumping horses, despite the stallion having no recorded competition achievements of his own. His genetic legacy was proven through his progeny, which included numerous horses that reached international competition levels. From 1954 to 1961, he gained recognition as a leading sire of jumping horses in France. Furioso’s contributions were significant enough to earn approval for several prestigious studbooks, including Oldenburg, Hanover, Rhineland, Hessen, and Westfalia.

Furioso’s impact on the horse breeding world extended beyond his lifetime, though his lineage has had challenges. Concerns arose with the spread of Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome, a genetic defect traced back to similar bloodlines of the era. Despite these issues, his influence as a sire remains well-regarded, particularly due to the successes of his offspring at the highest levels of show jumping.

Furioso sired several notable horses that achieved significant success in international showjumping. Among his most renowned progeny is Lutteur B, who clinched the individual gold medal in showjumping at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Another prominent offspring, Pomone B, delivered an outstanding performance at the World Championships in Buenos Aires in 1966, ridden by Pierre Jonquères d'Oriola, and competed at the maximum height of 1.60m. These progeny have greatly contributed to Furioso's enduring legacy as an influential sire in the world of showjumping.

Furioso xx died in 1967. Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
