About Cavalier Royale
Cavalier Royale is a (died 1998) showjumping stallion foaled in 1978, by Cor de la Bryère.
Cavalier Royale was an Irish Sport Horse stallion, born as a Holsteiner in Germany by breeder Siegfried Muhlens, in 1978. After his purchase by Dr Noel Cawley of the Irish National Stud in the late 1980s, Cavalier Royale became a highly influential sire, particularly noted for his contributions to showjumping breeding. Though his own competition record lacks prominent international results, his genetic legacy is widely honoured through the high success rate of his progeny in the sport.
His breeding origins are remarkable, being a full brother to top showjumpers Graf Grande and Grand Slam, with bloodlines traced to sire Cor de la Bryère, known for producing exceptional showjumping horses, and dam Ligustra. This pedigree bestowed him with prestigious genetics crucial for enhancing jumping prowess in his lineage.
Licensed with several major studbooks including the Irish Sport Horse, Holsteiner Verband, and Zangersheide, Cavalier Royale's damline is celebrated for perpetuating the sport’s elite jumping capabilities. This well-regarded bloodline successfully merged showjumping athleticism with desirable rideability qualities, a combination sought after in equestrian breeding.
Cavalier Royale's contributions to the sport are best reflected through his outstanding offspring. Notable among them is King Cavalier, who excelled under riders like Heather O'Connor and contributed to the Italian team at the World Equestrian Games. His progeny consistently reached high competitive levels, including horses such as Cavalier Best Choice, Murphy's Flight, and Renaissance, who performed at the 1.50m to 1.60m levels and competed in CSI5* events.
Cavalier Royale died in 1998. Breeding may continue via frozen semen — confirm availability with the stud.
