Ian Millar, known as 'Captain Canada,' is a celebrated Canadian showjumper born on 6 January 1947 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is acclaimed for his unprecedented ten appearances at the Olympic Games, which is a record for any athlete. Millar began his journey with the Canadian Equestrian Team in 1971 and has become the most successful competitor in Canadian show jumping history. One of his significant achievements includes winning a team silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with his horse 'In Style.'

Millar's partnership with the legendary horse Big Ben is particularly noteworthy. Together, they won the World Cup Final twice consecutively in 1988 and 1989 and secured over 40 Grand Prix victories. They also claimed individual and team gold medals at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis. Millar's contributions to the sport extend beyond his competitive records as he also operates Millar Brooke Farm in Perth, Ontario, where he coaches future Canadian showjumping talents.

Throughout his career, Millar has succeeded in various championships, including multiple medals at the Pan American Games. In total, he has amassed ten Pan American Games medals, which include two individual golds in 1987 and 1999. His accomplishments further underline his impact and influence in international showjumping, and he continues to serve as the Technical Advisor for Canada's national show jumping team in preparation for the Paris 2024 Games.
