Sterrehof's Opium was an elite Westphalian stallion registered with the Anglo European Studbook, primarily known for his achievements in showjumping sports. Born on 12th June 1996, he was bred by A. Haarlammert and achieved significant success on the international showjumping circuit under the ride of Dutch showjumper Marc Houtzager.
Opium's competitive highlights include representing the Netherlands at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, where he placed seventh individually and helped secure a fourth-place finish with the Dutch team. His career boasts victories at several major events such as the Nations Cup in Calgary in 2009 and Grand Prix titles at Indoor Brabant (2012), Maubeuge (2011), Edinburgh, and Donaueschingen both in 2006.
He competed at the revered CHIO Aachen for six consecutive years from 2009 to 2014, marking him as a consistently strong performer in top tier competitions. Sterrehof's Opium retired from competition in early 2015, with a farewell event at Jumping Amsterdam, and enjoyed a peaceful retirement until April 2024, when he passed away due to a pasture injury.
