Paul Schockemöhle, born in 1945, is a prominent figure in the equestrian world, particularly known for his achievements in showjumping. Emergent in the competitive scene during the late 1960s, Schockemöhle became a dominant force in international showjumping in the 1970s and 1980s. Representing West Germany, he notably won team silver at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and team bronze at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. His success extended to the European Championships, where he clinched three consecutive individual gold medals in 1981, 1983, and 1985, achieving remarkable success with his renowned horse Deister. This partnership also led to a team gold in 1981 and team bronze in 1985.

Schockemöhle's influence went beyond his competitive achievements. After retiring, he established himself as a significant figure in horse breeding and training.
