McLain Ward, born in 1975, is a leading American showjumping rider known for his Olympic and competitive achievements. Throughout his career, he has represented the United States at multiple Olympic Games, winning team gold medals in 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Beijing with the mare Sapphire. He added silver medals to his collection in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2020 in Tokyo, riding HH Azur and Contagious, respectively. Ward's success also includes a team silver at the 2006 World Championships in Aachen and a victory in the 2017 individual World Cup Final with HH Azur.
Beyond the Olympics, he has captured numerous Grand Prix titles, notably at the Wellington circuit in Florida in 2020 and the Hampton Classic Grand Prix in 1998 and 1999. He runs his operations from Castle Hill Farm in Brewster, New York, and Wellington, Florida, where he also coaches aspiring riders.
