About Martin Fuchs

Martin Christian Fuchs, born on 13 July 1992 and reportedly in Bietenholz in the canton of Zürich, is a Swiss showjumping rider based at Team Fuchs AG in Wängi, Thurgau. He grew up inside one of Switzerland's best-known jumping families: his father Thomas Fuchs is a two-time Olympian and influential trainer, his mother Renata a former elite rider and Grand Prix winner, and his paternal uncle Markus Fuchs a five-time Olympian, Sydney 2000 team silver medallist and 2001 FEI World Cup Final winner. His youth record was correspondingly strong, running from European Children individual silver in 2006 with Vasco IV and European Junior individual bronze in 2007 and 2008 with Karin II CH, through team gold for Europe at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games with Midnight Mist, to European Young Rider individual gold in 2012 with Principal and Young Rider team gold with individual silver in 2013 on PSG Future. He was Swiss Young Rider champion in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The first phase of his senior career belonged to Clooney 51, the 2006 grey Westphalian gelding owned by Luigi Baleri. Fuchs took European team bronze on his senior championship debut at Aachen in 2015 and again at Gothenburg in 2017, finished equal ninth individually at the Rio Olympics in 2016, and was fourth in the 2017 World Cup Final at Omaha. In 2018, after Clooney had undergone emergency colic surgery and a carefully managed return, the pair won individual silver at the World Championships in Tryon, making Fuchs the first Swiss jumping rider to win an individual World Championship medal. The following season brought European individual gold at Rotterdam, second place in the World Cup Final at Gothenburg and victory in the Rolex Grand Prix of Geneva, and in January 2020 Fuchs first reached world No. 1.

Leone Jei, the 2012 grey KWPN gelding owned by Adolfo Juri, carried the next phase. The pair won European team gold and individual silver at Riesenbeck in 2021 and the Rolex Grand Prix of Geneva in the same year, the season in which Clooney sustained a serious shoulder fracture in a pasture accident, survived intensive treatment and was retired to Normandy. In 2022 Fuchs won the FEI World Cup Final at Leipzig with Chaplin and The Sinner and returned to world No. 1, verified again on 31 May 2022. Leone Jei then took the Spruce Meadows Rolex Grand Prix in both 2023 and 2024, finished tenth individually at the Paris Olympics in 2024, and won the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen in 2025 to complete Fuchs' fifth Rolex Grand Slam Major. All five of his Majors were won at Grand Slam venues: Geneva in 2019 and 2021, Spruce Meadows in 2023 and 2024, and Aachen in 2025.

Team Fuchs AG combines elite competition, horse education, coaching and international trading rather than a documented large-scale breeding stud, with Martin and Thomas Fuchs forming the sporting and training core and Renata Fuchs coaching alongside them. The operation is notable for the durability of its owner relationships, principally with Luigi Baleri since 2007 and Adolfo Juri since 2013, alongside Laura Connolly and Jacques and Pierre Bodenmüller. No audited turnover, prize-money total or sponsorship value is publicly verified, and speculative figures are excluded here. At the 3 August 2026 cut-off the FEI recorded 3,948 starts and 292 wins for Fuchs since 1 January 2010, and he stood 17th with 2,491 points on Longines list 306 dated 1 July 2026.

His 2026 season has been built around Conner Jei, the 2011 Holsteiner gelding who won the Bordeaux CSI5*-W Grand Prix and finished second in the Saut Hermès, Fontainebleau and La Baule Grands Prix, with Fortjump du Beaumenil adding wins at Nancy and Monaco and Lorde completing the World Cup Final at Fort Worth in 14th. Switzerland has named Fuchs and Conner Jei to its final team for the FEI Jumping World Championship at Aachen alongside Steve Guerdat, Gaëtan Joliat and Jason Smith, with Alain Jufer as reserve; earlier campaign coverage had discussed Leone Jei as the Aachen target, but the final nomination controls. The championship runs from 16 to 23 August 2026 and had not begun at this dossier's cut-off, so the selection is recorded as a nomination and no result is stated. The declared Swiss objective is a top-seven finish among eligible nations to secure qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Fuchs' record at world No. 1, World individual silver, European individual gold, a World Cup Final title and five Rolex Majors is already among the most complete of any Swiss rider of his generation; an Olympic medal remains the conspicuous gap.
