About Francisco Goyoaga Mollet

Francisco Goyoaga Mollet (16 May 1920 - 25 May 1980), known as Paco Goyoaga, was a Spanish showjumping rider and the first FEI Jumping World Champion. He won the inaugural World Championship in Paris in 1953 riding Quorum, ahead of Fritz Thiedemann on Diamant and Pierre Jonqueres d'Oriola on Ali Baba. He took two further World Championship medals: individual bronze at Madrid in 1954 on Baden, and individual silver at Aachen in 1956 on Fahnenkonig.

Goyoaga competed at three Olympic Games - 1956, 1960 and 1964. The equestrian events of the 1956 Games were staged in Stockholm in June rather than in Melbourne with the rest of the Games, because Australian quarantine regulations prevented horses entering the country. His 1953 world title raised the profile of Spanish showjumping at home and abroad.
