Cian O'Connor, born in 1979, is an accomplished showjumping rider from Ireland. At 17, he made his international debut for Ireland in Dunkirk, France, and has been a key figure in Irish equestrian teams for decades. O'Connor won bronze in the individual event at the London 2012 Olympics riding Blue Loyd 12. During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021, partnered with Kilkenny, he finished seventh individually but withdrew from the team event due to the horse's health issue. At the 2017 European Championships in Gothenburg, he claimed team gold and individual bronze with Good Luck. He secured four victories in the Aga Khan Trophy at the Dublin Horse Show in 2004, 2012, 2015, and 2022. Leading Karlswood Stables in County Meath, he balances roles as competitor and mentor, engaged in coaching and horse production. In 2004, O'Connor was stripped of an Olympic gold medal after a doping infraction with Waterford Crystal. His career showcases resilience and excellence, strengthening Ireland's presence in international showjumping.

Verified record as at 6 August 2026: O'Connor has four competitive Olympic starts — Athens 2004 with Waterford Crystal, London 2012 with Blue Loyd 12, Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021) with Kilkenny and Paris 2024 with K.I Maurice, where he was 33rd in the individual qualifier and part of the Irish team that finished seventh in the team final. Two further Games are non-starts and are not counted as appearances: he was Ireland's official non-travelling reserve for Beijing 2008, and he did not compete at Rio 2016 after Ireland failed to secure the team place on appeal. His Athens 2004 result was disqualified by a final FEI Judicial Committee decision that found a violation of General Regulation 146.2 following the presence of fluphenazine and zuclopenthixol, while accepting that he was not involved in a deliberate attempt to affect the horse's performance under GR 174.7.3; the sanctions were disqualification from all 2004 Olympic competitions, CHF 5,000 costs and a three-month suspension, and the individual gold was reallocated to Rodrigo Pessoa.
