La Biosthetique-Sam FBW, or Sam, was a German-bred sport horse born in 2000, celebrated for his performances in international eventing. Bred by Gunter Seitter in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, Sam was owned by Kreuter and the Jung family, alongside the German National Federation. His sire was the Irish Thoroughbred Stan The Man, and his dam was Halla, with Heraldik xx contributing to his Thoroughbred heritage. Sam's career was guided by the rider Michael Jung. His significant victories include the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky and the 2011 European Championships in Luhmühlen. Notably, Sam won individual gold medals at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics, aiding the German team to gold in 2012 and silver in 2016. He triumphed in five-star events such as the Burghley Horse Trials in 2015 and Badminton Horse Trials in 2016, helping Jung win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. Sam retired in 2018 and stayed at Michael Jung's equestrian centre in Germany until passing away in early 2026. While his impact on the eventing community is profound, the cause of his death was not disclosed publicly.
