Bred in the United Kingdom by John Harding-Rolls, Milton was out of the Dutch Warmblood stallion Marius, with lineage tracing back to the notable Trakehner stallion Marco Polo. His dam, Aston Answer, an Irish Draught Sport Horse, had Anglo Arabian and Thoroughbred influences through her sire Any Questions. Under John Whitaker's guidance from 1985 to 1994, Milton gained international acclaim in showjumping. Renowned for jumping clear rounds and excelling in major competitions, he secured Individual Silver and Team Gold at the 1987 European Championships in St Gallen, followed by Individual and Team Gold in Rotterdam in 1989. At the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, Milton earned Individual Silver and Team Bronze. He also won the FEI World Cup Finals in 1990 and 1991, held in Dortmund and Gothenburg. Milton's triumph in the 1986 Du Maurier Limited International at Spruce Meadows was another highlight. Accumulating over £1.25 million in prize money, Milton became the first non-racing showjumping horse to reach this landmark. Despite missing the Seoul 1988 Olympics, he competed in Barcelona 1992, finishing 14th individually and 7th in team competition.
